Synopsis

After a series of tragedies has left Matty Matthews despondent and alone, he retreats to a small seaside town on Cape Cod for introspection. The town is Atwater Commons, home to, and renamed for, best-selling mystery-writer Atwater Bridges. Bridges has recently had a runaway success with his latest novel, entitled "Dirt Boy", the story of a conscienceless serial killer who stalks the woods outside a rural New England town. Matty spends his time listening to the book-on-tape version of "Dirt Boy" that his sister has given him. But all is not well among the town's picturesque fishing boats and Colonial houses. Matty soon begins to notice certain events in town that appear to be mimicking incidents in the book. Intrigued, he starts to investigate. But the closer he draws to the truth, the more endangered his own life becomes as the tenuous line between fiction and reality grows thinner.
