Synopsis
Telefilm based on the true story of two brothers torn apart by a tortured family legacy and brought together by the notorious 1977 execution of convicted killer Gary Gilmore as the eyes of the world looked on. Set in the days prior to his execution, the telefilm examines the relationship between Gary and his brothers Mikal and Frank, who arrived to stage a last-minute effort to stay the sentence. Through death-row scenes between Gary and Mikal and flashbacks to their troubled family past, the film unfolds into the story of a man coming to terms with the sins and secrets of his brother -- while coping with his family's dark, abusive history.
Based on Mikal Gilmore's memoir about his family's legacy of violence. His brother, Gary Gilmore, was put to death in in 1977, following his murder of two men. His was the first execution after Utah reinstated the death penalty. Gilmore's case was also considered unique because he was a champion of his own sentence.
