Synopsis

Adapted from a stage play by Anne Nelson, a drama centering on a slice of the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. Nick, a fire captain, who lost eight men in the collapse of the World Trade Center, enlists help from an editor, Joan, to prepare their eulogies. Nick builds a relationship with Joan, who helps him put together the difficult, heartfelt speeches that he must deliver with honor, humor and poise--all the while, navigating his way through his own emotional response.

"The Guys" is based on a one-act play, written by Anne Nelson, who is the director of the International program at Columbia's journalism school and helped a firefighter write eulogies for the men he lost on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center attacks.

Focus Features purchased the world wide distribution rights from ContentFilm.

The play, "The Guys" was commissioned and mounted by the Flea Theater in Lower Manhattan; acclaimed theater director Jim Simpson, the Artistic Director of the Flea Theater, directed the play prior to directing the film. Simpson is married to the film's star, Sigourney Weaver, who along with co-star Anthony La Paglia, was also part of the original stage production.
