Synopsis

Luca is a young boy in 1930s Italy, and after his mother has run away his father is more than happy to see him cared for by a group of eccentric aristocratic English women living in Tuscany. Hester, Arabella and Mary are soon joined by Americans Elsa and Georgie, who share their love for Italy and lack of concern over the rise of Fascism. But when war breaks out, Luca's life changes, as do those of the women, particularly the Jewish American Elsa.
