Synopsis

Set in contemporary Iran, a story which examines the family pressure and guilt that arises when an affluent young couple discovers the wife, Leila, is infertile, Reza, Leila's husband, is so in love with her that he is not troubled by this news and insists he would be happy with her alone. However Leila must deal with the likes of her confrontational mother-in-law who is desperate for an heir. His calculating, insensitive mother finds this situation unacceptable and browbeats Leila into convincing her husband to take a second wife who can bear children. Overcome by guilt Leila obediantly agrees to this demand. The heartbreak that follows is devastating...
