Synopsis

A portrait of the legendary avant-garde filmmaker Stan Brakhage. The film approaches Brakhage's life through his films, many of which are intensely autobiographical; from "Window Water Baby Moving", a recording of his wife giving birth to "Dog Star Man", featuring himself and his family around their home. Through these films, Brakhage has worked to bring together art and the most intimate moments of the everyday, as well as the material nature of the body. Some of his films look at death or disease, while others are purely abstract. The film follows Brakhage's creative life and his family relationships, rather than making a study of his films.
