Synopsis

Sara Pezzini is a tough, intelligent New York homicide detective who attacks her job with a vengeance in an all-or-nothing quest to bring down the bad guys, almost going too far. While investigating her best friend's death, Sara's life is radically changed forever. She comes in contact with an ancient, intelligent, living weapon -- the Witchblade. Throughout the ages, the Witchblade has chosen women of great fortitude, intellect and beauty to be its host in order to battle the Earth's darkest evil forces. For years, the powerful Witchblade has been dormant, but its powers are awakened when it comes in contact with the mortally wounded Sara, healing her as it binds its powerful will within her. Unable to free herself from the Witchblade, Sara must learn to govern its power while simultaneously balancing her life and career as a police detective.

Sara employs her skills as a police detective to fight crime, using the Witchblade to combat a much greater and frighteningly organized conspiracy of evil that threatens the very soul of humanity. As Sara tries to keep her secret, do her job and have some semblance of a life, the Witchblade -- and Sara -- are pursued by Kenneth Irons, a billionaire obsessed with possessing the Witchblade, and his enigmatic henchman, Ian Nottingham. When Pezzini's partner, Danny Woo, is murdered, he is replaced by Detective Jake McCartey, a laid-back surfer from California.
