Synopsis

After marrying his sweetheart, Betty Lou Winters, rookie cop Roy Gifford immediately gets into hot water when he inadvertently helps thief Danny Emmett rob a bank. Commissioner Lewis is about to demand Roy's badge when the rookie unintentionally aids convicted killer Slick Eastman to escape. After being fired from his job, Roy is forced to abandon his honeymoon in Bermuda for a trip to Coney Island with his bride. When Roy knocks himself unconscious while pulling down a window shade in their honeymoon suite, Betty Lou runs into the hallway for help and returns with Danny, who douses Roy with water. After Danny leaves and Roy regains consciousness, he realizes that Danny was the robber whom he let get away, and tells Betty Lou to keep an eye on him while he goes for the police. When Roy returns, both Betty Lou and Danny have disappeared, and the police accuse him of fabricating the story. Meanwhile, Betty Lou has followed Danny to a funhouse owned by gangster Nick Bruno, and has left a trail of toffee for Roy to follow. Picking up Betty Lou's trail, Roy arrives at the funhouse just in time to hear his wife scream when she sees Eastman dragging Danny's dead body. Upon finding Danny's corpse, Roy announces that he is conducting his own investigation, and when the lights go off and the body disappears, he accuses Bruno of murder. After sending Betty Lou for the police, Roy returns to find Bruno dead and Eastman waiting for him with a gun. After a spine-chilling chase through spooky rooms and trick devices, Roy and Eastman slide down a chute into the very spot where Commissioner Lewis and the police are waiting. For his heroics, the commissioner gives Roy his job back and sends the newlyweds on a honeymoon to Bermuda.
