Synopsis

Dudley Kent leaves his wife for Grace Vaughan and the two lead a placid life until Kent receives word that his young son is dead. Blaming Grace for enticing him from his family, Kent deserts her. While searching for employment, Grace is lured into the questionable house of Marie D'Arcy where she meets Willard Ashbrook and implores him to save her. With Ashbrook's help, Grace procures a post as a nurse, and while caring for Stuart Brinsley, a young millionaire suffering from typhoid fever, Grace falls in love with her patient and accepts his proposal of marriage. After their marriage, Grace lives alternately in sublime happiness and in dread that her past will be revealed to her husband. Grace's quandary is resolved when she discovers that she is pregnant. Realizing that her child's character could be affected by her deceit and lack of courage, Grace confesses all to Stuart and is relieved and surprised to discover that he had known her secret all along.
