When Native American Johnny Firecloud returns to his small California desert home after serving in Vietnam, he faces a new enemy, the racist punks who are led by a man named Colby who runs the town. Johnny endures their harassment and that of the town sheriff, who lives in fear of Colby who holds a secret over him. When Colby's gang lynch Johnny's grandfather, Johnny snaps, and stalks and kills each of the men who were involved in the murder. Now afraid for his life, Colby sends the sheriff after Johnny and he has to decide whether to obey his blackmailer or sympathize with Johnny and let him go free.
