In July 1991 a federal jury in Santa Ana, California ordered Universal Pictures to pay $11,600,000 to Ascent Films and producer Tarak Ben Ammar for breaching a 1983 contract to distribute the film. In May 1994 a California appeals court upheld the earlier decision. The aforementioned sum is believed to be the largest ever awarded to a producer in a breach of contract suit against a studio.
