Originally "Boston Strong," based on the book written by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge, was a competing project set up at 20th Century Fox. Casey Affleck was attached to produce, alongside his producing partner John Ridley, and to star. Daniel Espinosa was attached to direct. Fox let the "Boston Strong" project go to CBS Films where it was then merged with "Patriots Day."
