In the late 1960s, as Bombay is becoming a modern metropolis, Johnny Balraj is a street-toughened criminal with a sad past. Rosie Noronha is a sultry jazz singer, who has had some abusive men in her life. When the two meet, it's love at first sight. When a rich and powerful man hires Johnny to do his dirty work for him, his life takes a turn and he has a chance to be what he wants most, a "big shot." But instead he finds a life filled with deception and betrayal.
