Director Zack Snyder said that the "v" in the title, rather than "vs.," is intentional to "keep it from being a straight 'versus' movie, even in the most subtle way."
In 2001, Warner Bros. was developing an idea of similar nature with Wolfgang Petersen attached to produce and direct a script by Andrew Kevin Walker, but the project fell apart when Wolfgang Peterson went on to direct "Troy" and Jude Law turned down the role of Batman.
