Synopsis

Charlotte Vale is becoming an old maid, thanks to her domineering mother. Psychiatrist Dr. Jaquith urges Charlotte to make several radical changes in her life and slowly, Charlotte begins blossom into an attractive, confident woman. While on a long ocean voyage, she falls in love with Jerry Durrence, who is trapped in a loveless marriage, and becomes a surrogate mother to Jerry's introverted daughter, who is on the verge of becoming the wallflower that Charlotte once was.
