Synopsis

A landmark erotic drama and among Academy Award winning director Bernado Bertolucci's masterworks. Screen icon Marlon Brando plays a businessman who pursues a steamy affair with a young Parisian woman, played by Maria Schneider, on the grounds that it remains strictly sexual. While, for Brando, the affair is a means to forget his grief over his dead wife, for Schneider, it's a complication that sends her turbulent relationship with her fiancé, played by Jean-Pierre Léaud, into a tailspin. An intelligent, visually rapturous exploration of how sexual obsession can be a dangerous drug with powerhouse performances from its leads.
