Synopsis
McTeague, captain of the Grampus, finds a baby boy with half of a dollar bill pinned to his shirt. An attached note from the mother who abandoned him indicates that she will one day claim her child with the other half of the dollar. The captain calls him Bill, becomes very fond of the child, and protects him from the taunts of Webber, the ship's mate, who is revealed to be the child's father. Webber is fired, kidnaps the boy in revenge, and dies accidentally after a fight with the captain, who marries Bill's mother when she comes to claim her child.
