Upon returning to his camp from a nearby watering hole, a half-simian and half-human herbivore discovers his entire clan, friends and family have been killed by Stone Age humans. Thus, begins a long search for others of his kind. As he traverses the African continent avoiding humans and looking for clues about his own species, he also befriends animals and learns about the world in which he is the last of his kind.
