Synopsis
Hunter Frank Buck sets out on a mission through the Malaysian jungle to capture "every animal that inhabits the jungle" and send them to American zoos. After abandoning their elephant caravan once the jungle vegetation becomes too thick, Buck and his native helpers set up camp. While making an inspection of the surrounding land, Buck and his gun carrier, Ali, witness a tiger and black leopard fight to a stand-off. As the weary leopard wanders away, he is attacked by a huge python. After the python crushes his prey, Buck captures the snake with a lasso, planning to send it to a Chicago zoo.
In the Sumatran jungle, Buck builds a trap baited with a durian fruit to capture a giant orangutan for a St. Louis zoo. Buck's next captives are a lost honey bear cub and some rare gibbon monkeys that he lures into a trap placed in a tree. To catch a man-eating tiger, Buck and his helpers dig a pit near a fence that the tiger frequents. After the frenzied animal falls into the trap, Buck climbs into the pit and lowers a box-like cage onto the beast. When he sees a baby elephant pursued by a tiger, Buck shoots the tiger and captures the elephant for his menagerie.
Buck's next prey is a rare spotted leopard. When the leopard seeks refuge in a tree, Buck captures the beast by shooting the tree limbs out from under him, causing him to fall into a net. After snaring a rare Bird of Paradise, Buck and his men raft down the river in search of huge bat-like creatures known as flying foxes. By startling the sleeping creatures, Buck and his men force them to fly into their waiting nets. Buck traps next a black leopard and some rare spectacle monkeys, then he and his men weave a 1,000 pound net to catch a rhinocerus. The panicked beast avoids the net, but falls into a well, where Buck captures him.
Next, Buck and his men travel to Ceylon to capture some wild elephants. After building a four-acre corral, Buck stampedes the herd into the stockade and then singles out individual elephants to send to zoos. His mission completed, Buck crates his animals and transports them by carriage and truck to Singapore, where he loads them onto a ship, bound for American zoos.
