Synopsis

Steve Holden and his sidekick, Pop Norton, ride to a small town on the Mexican border to break the news to the family of Bud Mathews that Bud has been killed in a cattle raid. Steve mistakenly believes that he shot Bud during the raid, and consequently, when he learns that old John Mathews and his daughter Molly are being pressured by a mysterious assailant determined to drive them from their ranch, Steve and Pop hire on as ranch hands to investigate. Steve soon discovers that the Mathews's ranch is the only unpatrolled land along the border, thus making it an invaluable piece of property to rustlers who are transporting cattle across the border. In town, when Steve sees Cass Barton, one of the ranch hands he has hired, leave the office of Sam Gorman, the head of the land company, he begins to suspect that Gorman is behind the Mathews' troubles. Back at the ranch, Steve accuses Cass and his sidekick, Scar Atwood, of working for Gorman, but they counter by accusing Steve of murdering Bud, thus causing Mathews to order Steve off his ranch. Scar's revelation makes Steve realize that Scar and Cass must have killed Bud, and he follows the pair back to town, where Gorman pays them off for getting rid of Steve. Unwilling to share the money, Cass shoots Scar, and Scar, thinking that he is about to die, tells Steve and the sheriff that Cass killed Bud and confesses to their involvement with Gorman. As Gorman and his men ride to take over the Mathews's ranch, Steve and Pop ride to stop them. With Mathews' help, they engage Gorman in a gunfight until the sheriff and his posse arrive to arrest the rustlers.
