Synopsis

Young Sam Weatherbee, who leads a carefree existence on his inherited wealth, is staging an elaborate party in memory of his ancestors when he receives a wire notifying him that his fortune is lost, owing to the speculations of his executor. Down and out, Sam becomes heir to an old house in Los Angeles, formerly the residence of his father's sister and now presided over by O'Reilly and his wife. Finding the house filled with old junk, Sam conceives the idea of bartering it for food. Eventually he becomes prosperous as a junk dealer though ridiculed by his former society friends. His sweetheart, Mattie, who had previously considered him shiftless, defends him. His rival Dillingham tries to prevent Sam from obtaining a lease on his father's property, but Mattie, discovering his trickery, rejects Dillingham for Sam.
