Johnson made film his next project, appearing in the Alice Faye musical "George White's 1935 Scandals" (1935), "F-Man" (1936) and the Elvis Presley musical "Jailhouse Rock" (1957). He also appeared in the drama "Hard Traveling" (1986) with J. E. Freeman. Later in his career, Johnson worked on "Chattahoochee" (1990) with Gary Oldman.
