Biography
Arte Johnson is a comic actor known for his characters on the sketch comedy series "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In." Johnson graduated from the University of Illinois in 1949 and moved to New York to work at a publishing company. He got his first job in the entertainment industry when he was cast in a revival of "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." He worked in both film and television during the 1950s and 1960s, gaining some celebrity for his role in the 1967 satirical film "The President's Analyst." Johnson became a household name thanks to several recurring characters on the late 1960s-early '70s sketch comedy show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In." His most popular character was that of a German soldier who would react to various sketches on the show with the catchphrase "Very interesting... but stupid!" After the conclusion of the show Johnson worked steadily as a voiceover artist for a number of 1970s cartoons including "The Houndcats." He continued to appear in guest roles on television during the 1980s, most notably seven appearances on the romantic comedy seires "The Love Boat." Johnson's only role in the 2000s was for an episode of the "Justice League" adventure cartoon series, where he resurrected his German accent to voice the villain Vermin Vunderbarr.
