Biography

Charles French was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. In his early acting career, French appeared in such films as "The Hired Man" (1918), "Jubilo" (1919) and "The Bear-Cat" (1922) with Hoot Gibson. He also appeared in the Edna Purviance drama "A Woman of Paris" (1923) and "The Abysmal Brute" (1923). His film career continued throughout the twenties and the thirties in productions like "The Lonely Road" (1923), "The Saddle Hawk" (1925) and "Good As Gold" (1927). He also appeared in the western "Via Pony Express" (1933) with Jack Hoxie and "Brand of Hate" (1934). During the latter part of his career, he continued to act in "The Crimson Trail" (1935), the Conway Tearle western "Desert Guns" (1936) and the western "The Last of the Warrens" (1936) with Bob Steele. French more recently worked on the Jason Robards comedic fantasy "Mr. Sycamore" (1974).
