Hywel started off his career in film with roles in "The Mouse and the Woman" (1980), "Yr Alcoholig Lion" (1984) and "Milwr Bychan" (1986). Later, he acted in "Rhosyn a Rhith" (1987), the Paul Rhys historical love story "Rebecca's Daughters" (1992) and "The Christmas Stallion" (1992). He also appeared in "Forbidden Territory: Stanley's Search For Livingstone" (ABC, 1997-98). More recently, Hywel appeared in "The Unknown Soldier" (PBS, 1998-99).
