Haldeman, however, was the first in his family to try his hand at acting. After graduating from UCLA, he landed a small part as a bellboy on the 1972 made-for-TV movie "The Couple Takes a Wife." That film would launch Haldeman's acting career, one that has included work on over 100 television shows and commercials. Some of the highlights of his commercial work include playing a golfer on the first commercial Tiger Woods made for Buick, and playing the "Good to Go" Dad for the fast food chain Taco Bell. Throughout the '70s and '80s, Haldeman worked in guest supporting roles on a number of TV sitcoms, including "Happy Days," "Who's the Boss?," and "Eight Is Enough." In 1997 he landed a recurring role as Officer Barker on "The Drew Carey Show" and followed that up with a small starring role as Mr. Kraft on the science-fiction comedy series "3rd Rock from the Sun." Haldeman is also a successful stand-up comedian and has performed at venues all across the country.
