As such, Bringmann's work stands in direct opposition to the more controversial and experimental "New German Cinema" of such international art-house names as Fassbinder, Wenders, Kluge, von Trotta and Herzog. His "Theo gegen den Rest der Welt/Theo Against the Rest of the World" (1980), an adventure comedy starring rock singer Marius Muller-Westernhagen, broke boxoffice records throughout Germany and its director and star have since re-teamed for "Der Schneemann/The Snowman" (1985).
