Biography
Journalist Jacob Bernstein made a critically praised debut as filmmaker with "Everything is Copy" (2015), a documentary portrait of his mother, the Oscar-nominated writer and director Nora Ephron. Born August 22, 1978, Bernstein was the son of journalist and screenwriter-director Nora Ephron and the award-winning journalist Carl Bernstein, who helped to break the Watergate scandal for The Washington Post. Following his parents' divorce in 1980, Bernstein and his brother, musician Max Bernstein, were raised jointly by both parents, who subsequently remarried. Bernstein studied English at Vassar College and after working briefly as a production assistant on his mother's 1998 comedy "You've Got Mail," moved into journalism. He contributed features and media coverage to numerous major publications, including The New York Times, New York magazine, Rolling Stone and The Daily Beast website. Following Ephron's death in 2012, Bernstein began compiling material for what would eventually become the documentary "Everything is Copy." The film, co-directed by Nick Hooker, interviewed many of his mother's peers and collaborators, including Mike Nichols and actress Meryl Streep, and as well as his father, who spoke about the affair that broke up their marriage and served as the basis for Ephron's 1983 novel Heartburn
