Elliott's early acting career consisted of roles in various films, such as the Bruce Davison dramatic adaptation "Short Eyes" (1978), the Rae Dawn Chong musical "Beat Street" (1984) and "Crossover Dreams" (1985). He also appeared in "Off Beat" (1986) with Judge Reinhold, the action movie "The Dead Pool" (1988) with Clint Eastwood and the dramatic comedy "Do the Right Thing" (1989) with Danny Aiello. He kept working in film throughout the eighties and the nineties, starring in the Theresa Russell thriller "Impulse" (1990), the Jake Dengel comedy "Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh" (1991) and "Caught" (1996). Film continued to be his passion as he played roles in the dramedy "The New Yorker" (1998) with Mathieu Demy, "Blue Moon" (2000) and the Orlando Jones crime drama "Double Take" (2001). He also appeared in the drama "Thirteen Conversations About One Thing" (2002) with Matthew McConaughey and "The Feast of the Goat" (2006) with Isabella Rossellini.
