Christian Charmetant
Biography
Biography
Any devotee of late 20th/early 21st century French film and TV has probably come across Christian Charmetant. The veteran character actor appeared in many productions in his native country over the years, in a very diverse collection of roles. The end of the 1970s saw the beginning of Charmetant's onscreen career, as he appeared in small roles in a pair of films, as a photographer in the sex romp "Les givres" and playing in a cast that included French legends Jean Rochefort and Catherine Deneuve in the comedy "Courage fuyons." Still in his early 20s, Charmetant's next appearances were in TV, specifically in the series "Les amours de la belle epoque" and "L'inspecteur mene l'enquete," a crime drama. The 1980s, 1990s and 2000s were good decades for him, as he appeared in at least one film or TV series episode every year during that span. Although many of these productions were not internationally known, Charmetant would pop up occasionally in more widely released offerings. For example, he was among the ensemble cast of "Harrison's Flowers," a saga of journalists working in the war-torn Balkans, and played a marquis in the sexy 17th century-set period piece "The Libertine," starring Johnny Depp.
