Biography
Biography
Largely a supporting actor in the film and TV world but a leading man on the stage, Obie Award-winning theatre veteran Kevin Carroll was best known on screen for his performances in gritty crime drama "Paid in Full" (2002) and apocalyptic series "The Leftovers" (HBO, 2014- ). Born in Salisbury, NC, Carroll studied Theater at New York University and went onto spend the majority of his career treading the boards while still making the occasional film and TV appearance, with romantic comedy "Ed's Next Move" (1996), provocative indie "Jane Street" (1997) and urban drama "Always Outnumbered" (1998) some of his more notable early credits. Minor roles in more high-profile films then followed including Jennifer Aniston's love interest in "The Object of My Affection" (1998), a cab driver in "Being John Malkovich" and a company rep in Ken Loach's "The Navigators" (2001), as did guest spots on "Third Watch" (NBC, 1999-2005), "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" (NBC, 2001-2011) and "100 Centre Street" (A&E Network, 2001-02). Carroll enjoyed much more screen time when he starred as a big-time drug dealer in "Paid in Full" (2002), and went onto appear alongside a whole host of rappers in crime comedy "Paper Soldiers" (2002), portray amateur photographer Jerry Tibbs in biopic "The Notorious Bettie Page" (2005), and guest on "Strong Medicine" (Lifetime, 2000-06), "Numb3rs" (CBS, 2005-2010) and "Detroit 1-8-7" (ABC, 2010-11). Following small parts in acclaimed drama "Margaret" (2011), serial killer horror "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Kills You" (2012) and TV movie "Love is a Four-Letter Word" (2015), Carroll joined the second season cast of "The Leftovers" (HBO, 2014-) as John Murphy, a doting father and ex-convict fireman who appoints himself as Mapleton's chief enforcer.
