A former reporter (Sports Illustrated magazine), producer ("Nightwatch", "The CBS Evening News") and station manager (KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, WBBM-TV in Chicago), Rodgers had wide experience with all aspects of news production and broadcasting that led to his appointment as president of CBS Television Stations in 1990. One of the few high ranking African American executives, he took on overall responsibilities for all CBS owned televisions stations in New York, New York, Los Angeles, California, Chicago, Illionos, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Miami, Florida, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota and Green Bay, Wisconsin. After CBS was sold to Westinghouse, Rodgers left the network. In March 1996, it was announced that he was appointed as president of Discovery Networks US, overseeing domestic business aspects, including programming, affiliate and advertising sales, marketing, research and communications, of the Discovery Channel and the Learning Channel as well as any other new cable channels.
