Biography

During his time, Paul Hunter was renowned as one of the music industry's top video directors. In his busy career, he oversaw videos for a diverse range of artists including Marilyn Manson, Eminem, and even Michael Jackson. Hunter got his start in the commercial world after graduating from college in Los Angeles; his early work doing "spec" commercials attracted notice from agencies, and before long he was directing his first ad spots. He moved on to the music video world in 1995 with a clip for the obscure female R&B band Vybe. Over the following two years, Hunter directed videos for high-profile artists Mariah Carey, CeCe Peniston, and Snoop Dogg, among numerous others. After working in this arena for nearly a decade, the still-young director won his first movie directing assignment, for the 2003 martial-arts comic-book adaptation "Bulletproof Monk," starring Chow Yun-Fat and co-produced by John Woo. The film was not very successful, so Hunter returned to directing music videos and commercials. The new century saw him helm big-budget clips for an ever-expanding list of clients such as Stevie Wonder and Britney Spears. In the commercial sphere, Hunter directed spots for many companies including The Gap and Coca-Cola. For a commercial he directed for Nike, he earned an Emmy nomination.
