Biography

The boyishly handsome D'Amico won the hearts of TV viewers with his portrayal of the hopelessly romantic Michael 'Mouse' Tolliver who constantly searches for Mr. Right in the PBS miniseries "Armistead Maupin's 'Tales of the City'" (1994). Raised in the UK by an American father and English mother, he began his career playing the lead in a 1977 London stage revival of Lionel Bart's "Oliver!" D'Amico continued to appear in stage musicals (notably on roller skates in Lloyd Webber's "Starlight Express") before making his feature debut in a small role in "Superman II" (1980). After moving to Los Angeles, he abandoned acting and for a time worked as a clothing salesman.

Returning to England, D'Amico resumed his stage career, and made occasional film appearances. He was an American wooed by one of "The Silent Twins" (1985) in Jon Amiel's trenchant biopic, a soldier in Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" (1987) and one of a group of college friends who come to realize old feelings cannot be recaptured in Gregg Araki's "The Long Weekend (o' Despair)" (1989).

D'Amico has won acclaim on both side of the Atlantic for his stage roles, including Louis in the London premiere of "Angels in America" (1993) and on Broadway in "An Inspector Calls" (1994).
