Biography
Most often recognized for his work as IAB Lieutenant Rick Stetler on the TV crime drama "CSI: Miami," David Lee Smith was born and raised in Alabama, where he graduated from the University of Alabama before earning his MFA from Southern Methodist University. The handsome young actor broke into television in the early 1990s, snagging a string of one-off roles on a number of soap operas, including the Oakdale-set "As the World Turns," the Erica Kane saga "All My Children," and the groundbreaking class-conflict drama "One Life to Live." Smith established his reputation as a solid supporting player with one-offs and recurring roles on a variety of programs, from the tabloid-set sitcom "The Naked Truth" to the sci-fi spin-off "Star Trek: Voyager." Then in 2002, Smith took on a one-off on the popular cop drama "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." Though the role was small, Smith impressed producers who later cast him on the show's spin-off "CSI: Miami," where he's played Stetler since 2003. He's also earned bit parts in such noteworthy films as David Fincher's rebellious antihero thriller "Fight Club" and Fincher's chilling docudrama "Zodiac," which centered on the search for the mysterious Zodiac serial killer.
