Biography

Director Bethany Rooney has worked on countless television series and made-for-television movies over the years. Rooney (who early in her career, was credited as "Beth Hillshafer") started out as an assistant to producers on the television show "The White Shadow" during the late 1970s, before signing on as associate producer on "St. Elsewhere" during the early 1980s. From the mid 1980s onward, Rooney had made the jump to full-time director, as she "graduated" from associate producer to her new position on "St. Elsewhere." Over the years, Rooney would direct some of television's most popular programs, including "Beverly Hills, 90210," "Crossing Jordan," "Melrose Place," "Ally McBeal," "One Tree Hill," and "Gilmore Girls," among countless others. Beginning in the mid 1990s, Rooney would also direct many made-for-TV movies, including such titles as "She Cried No," "Locked Up: A Mother's Rage," and "Mixed Blessings." In addition to her directorial duties, Rooney has taught "Acting for the Camera" workshops, at the Steppenwolf Theater School West in Los Angeles.
