Biography

A versatile actor with a long history in theatre, Karl Kenzler had an impressive portfolio of television roles as well. His most familiar screen part was as the recurring character Senator Charles Holburn, who appeared throughout the first season of David Fincher's Kevin Spacey-starring political drama "House of Cards" (Netflix 2013), based on the acclaimed British series of the same name. Onscreen Kenzler also made various one-off character appearances in a range of popular shows including "Law & Order" (NBC 1990-2010), a three-episode recurring role in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (NBC 1999- ), J.J. Abrams' science fiction drama "Fringe" (Fox 2008-2013) and the legal drama "The Good Wife" (CBS 2009-16). Kenzler studied theatre and acting at the University of Evansville, Indiana, and New York University, where he created a one-man show entitled "Fire in the Head" which dealt with his ancestors' emigration from Ireland to the United States at the time of the Irish Potato Famine. He performed in Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and "The Tempest" in off-Broadway productions, the latter alongside Mandy Patinkin. His Broadway work included revivals of Harold Pinter's "The Caretaker," 1930s comedy of manners "Dinner at Eight" and the stage version of the film "Twelve Angry Men." However, his most high-profile stage role was as George Banks in the 2006 Broadway version of "Mary Poppins" and its subsequent national tour.
