Biography

David Straiton is a Canadian-born director who works most frequently in the genres of drama and fantasy. Straiton began his career directing for commercials, moving to television starting with the 1998 Canadian-filmed program "Traders," a drama based on investment bankers. In 1999, he began to concentrate his work on U.S. programs, directing episodes of the supernatural shows "Charmed" and "Angel" and the sci-fi program "Star Trek: Enterprise," of which he directed 10 episodes. Straiton continued to work regularly throughout the decade, specializing in hour-long programs, including the hostage negotiator drama "Standoff," the gambling-themed drama "Las Vegas," and the cop show "Life." In 2007, Straiton began his highest profile assignment, directing episodes of the highly-rated medical drama "House M.D." with Hugh Laurie. Straiton has directed multiple episodes of "House M.D." in seasons four through seven. Straiton returned to Canada in 2009 to direct the pilot episode of "Defying Gravity." Shot in Vancouver, the show chronicled the life of astronauts on a mission to Venus.
