Biography

A gifted figure skater, Sasha Cohen demonstrated enormous talent and grace well beyond her years. Born Oct. 26, 1984 in Los Angeles, Alexandra Pauline Cohen grew up studying gymnastics and ballet, which helped her develop her powerful ice skating style, characterized by her unparalleled flexibility. Taking second at the 2000 U.S. National Championships, Cohen earned silver again at the 2002 Nationals and that same year, went on to notch a fourth-place finish at both the Winter Olympics and World Championships. Arguably the best spinner in the world, Cohen won a string of silver medals, including at the 2002, 2004 and 2005 Nationals, 2004 and 2005 Worlds, and at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Although she won gold at the 2006 Nationals, Cohen's competitive career was cut short due to injuries, although she remained in the spotlight. "Project Runway" (Bravo, 2004-08; Lifetime, 2009- ) built a challenge around her and she booked appearances as herself on "Las Vegas" (NBC, 2003-08), "Hell's Kitchen" (Fox, 2005- ) and the Will Ferrell ice-skating comedy "Blades of Glory" (2007). After penning 2005's Fire on Ice: Autobiography of a Champion Figure Skater, the attractive Cohen notched acting roles on an episode of "CSI: NY" (CBS, 2004- ) as well as in the films "Moondance Alexander" (2007) and "Bratz" (2007) but proved how charmingly she could play bartender and banter with Andy Cohen, Amy Sedaris and Bruce Jenner on an especially memorably episode of "Watch What Happens: Live" (Bravo, 2009- ).
