L'wren Scott
Biography
Biography
L'Wren Scott was an American model, stylist and clothing designer whose works appeared both on the catwalk and on screens. Discovered by photographer Bruce Weber in the 1980s, she went on to model for him, David Bailey, Guy Bourdin and others. In the 1990s her career moved towards that of stylist, working for and with such iconic figures as Madonna, Julia Roberts, Karl Lagerfeld and Elizabeth Taylor, while her designs were worn by Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Michelle Obama. She also designed screen costumes for Sharon Stone in "Diabolique" (1996), Ellen Barkin in "Mercy" (2000) and "Ocean's Thirteen" (2007), and Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger in the concert documentary "Shine a Light" (2008). Adopted and raised by Mormon parents in the city of Roy, Utah, Scott's given name was Laura Bambrough, and her nickname growing up was 'Luann'. Her designs would be described as glamorous, elegant and ladylike, which were words that often were used in reference to the way she carried herself: at six feet and three inches, Scott cut a striking but not intimidating physical presence. For the final 13 years of her life she was in a long-term relationship with Jagger, although she resisted attempts to be pigeonholed as a celebrity girlfriend. However, the couple's relationship (as well as rumors about the financial stability of Scott's business) was inevitably widely discussed after Scott took her own life on March 17, 2014 in New York City at the age of 49.
