Biography

A television director with a knack for high-octane action and drama series, Jon Cassar learned his craft as a camera operator on such films and television shows as "PCU," "Forever Knight," and "The Cutting Edge" (1992). His first directorial outing was on the FBI thriller "The Profiler," wherein he sharpened the sense of kinetic intrigue he would later bring to such series as "Mutant X" and "Le Femme Nikita." In 2002, Carres joined "24" and quickly became the breakthrough action series' most prolific director. Among his techniques, Carres used the show's signature split-screen device and kitchen-sink approach to take advantage of the possibilities of perceived space and provide ludicrously visceral viewer experiences. His work on the series was so well-received he was chosen to direct the TV movie "24: Redemption." In addition to energizing such other series as "Fringe," "Human Target," and "Criminal Minds" as a director, Carre also boasts an executive-producer credit on Steven Spielberg's TV-sci-fi opus, "Terra Nova."
