Carlin worked on a variety of projects during his early entertainment career, including "To Race the Wind" (CBS, 1979-1980) and "Caddyshack" with Chevy Chase (1980). He went on to act in the crime flick "Fort Apache, the Bronx" (1981) with Paul Newman, "The Executioner's Song" (1982-83) and the drama "The Pope of Greenwich Village" (1984) with Eric Roberts. Later in his career, Carlin edited the Sidney Poitier drama "Little Nikita" (1988).
