Biography
Shirley Verrett was an actress who had a successful Hollywood career. She appeared in a number of television specials, including "Zubin Mehta, the New York Philharmonic and Shirley Verrett" (1977-78), "Tosca" (PBS, 1978-79) and "Samson and Delilah" (PBS, 1981-82). She also appeared in "Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Shirley Verrett" (PBS, 1986-87) and "Gian Carlo Menotti: The Musical Magician" (PBS, 1986-87). In the eighties, Verrett devoted her time to various credits, such as "Macbeth" (1987), "Aria" (1988) starring Theresa Russell and "Pavarotti Plus!... Plus!!" (PBS, 1988-89). She also worked on "The 31st Annual Grammy Awards" (CBS, 1988-89). She also appeared in the biopic "Maggio Musicale" (1990) with Malcolm McDowell. Additionally, she could be seen on a variety of television specials like "L' Africaine" (1989-1990), "Songs of Freedom" (PBS, 1991-92) and "Maria Callas" (1998-99). Verrett last appeared on "Grow Old Along With Me" (PBS, 1999-2000). Verrett passed away in November 2010 at the age of 79.
