Biography

Allen Toussaint brought his musical talents to a variety of films over the course of his Hollywood career. Toussaint began his entertainment career with his music featured in films like the action movie "Black Samson" (1974) with Rockne Tarkington, the Susan Roman action picture "Heavy Metal" (1981) and the Jessica Lange sports drama "Everybody's All American" (1988). His music also appeared in the dramatic comedy "Waiting For the Light" (1990) with Shirley MacLaine and the drama "Fire in the Sky" (1993) with D.B. Sweeney. In addition to his music, Toussaint appeared in the Blue Lu Barker documentary "Always For Pleasure" (1978). In the nineties and the early 2000s, Toussaint's music continued to appear on the silver screen, including in films like the dramatic adaptation "The Associate" (1996) with Whoopi Goldberg, the Al Pacino crime drama "Donnie Brasco" (1997) and "Another Day in Paradise" (1998). His work was also in the Martin Lawrence hit comedy "Big Momma's House" (2000). Toussaint's music was also featured in the Molly Shannon comedy "The Wedding Weekend" (2007), "Young@Heart" (2008) and "Rachel Getting Married" (2008) with Anne Hathaway. His music was also featured in the Kristen Wiig blockbuster comedy "Bridesmaids" (2011). Toussaint's music was most recently featured in the documentary "The Wrecking Crew" (2015) with Lou Adler. In addition to his music, Toussaint also appeared on-screen in "Hurricane on the Bayou" (2006). Allen Toussaint died on November 9, 2015, suffering a heart attack following a live performance in Madrid, Spain. He was 77 years old.
