Shirley started her acting career landing roles in films, such as "Imitation of Life" (1959) with Lana Turner, the comedy "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1968) with Steve McQueen and "The Commitment" (1976). She also starred in the TV movies "Message to My Daughter" (ABC, 1973-74) and "Eric" (NBC, 1975-76). Her passion for acting continued to her roles in projects like the Michael Keaton crime thriller "The Squeeze" (1987) and the comedy adventure "North" (1994) with Elijah Wood. She also starred in the TV movies "White Mama" (CBS, 1979-1980) and "Moving Target" (NBC, 1987-88). In her more recent career, she tackled roles on "Sparks" (1995-97), "Profiler" (1996-2000) and "Comedy Bang! Bang!" (IFC, 2011-).
