Biography

Perhaps best known for her role on the sitcom "ALF" (NBC, 1986-1990), actor Liz Sheridan was born in New York City in 1929, the daughter of a concert singer and a jazz trumpeter. After graduating from Mamaroneck High School, she began a career as a dancer in stage musicals and at nightclubs. Before long, she was acting in the theater as well, where she met then-unknown actor James Dean. The two had a short lived romance in the early '50s, before he became a major star. In 1960, Sheridan met William T. Wales while performing in Puerto Rico. The two began a relationship and soon moved in together, though they wouldn't formalize their arrangement through marriage until 1985. Sheridan continued to work on stage for several years, notably starring in a Broadway production of "Best Friend" in 1976. Around this same time, she began acting on TV as well. She would appear on over 30 shows such as "Newhart" (CBS, 1982-1990), "Archie Bunker's Place" (CBS, 1979-1983), and "Hill Street Blues" (NBC, 1981-1987), before landing a starring role as nosy neighbor Raquel Ochmonek on "ALF." Sherian would go on to memorably portray Jerry Seinfeld's mother on the hit sitcom "Seinfeld" (NBC, 1989-1998). She also raised eyebrows when she appeared in a sex scene with Andy Griffith in "Play the Game" (2009) at the age of 80.
