Biography
Rohn Schmidt is primarily known as a television and motion picture cinematographer. His work for the hard-hitting cop show "The Shield," the science fiction show "SGU Stargate Universe," and the Holly Hunter crime drama "Saving Grace" are among his most notable contributions to dynamic television. "The Shield"'s gritty, hyper-realistic look visually broke away from the average cop show and gave a tactile depth to the moral dilemmas facing the various characters. Schmidt has also worked as a cinematographer in feature films, mainly horror and science fiction movies, including the low budget "Brain Dead" (starring Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton), "The Terror Within," "Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time," and "Philadelphia Experiment II." His most notable work from this period was for Clive Barker's horror/neo-noir film "Lord of Illusions." In 2007, Schmidt was the director of photography for Frank Darabont's adaptation of the Stephen King novella "The Mist," about a group of everyday people trapped in a supermarket while a lethal cloud filled with menacing creatures surrounds them.
