Became first American woman to win gymnastics all-around gold medal at Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, CA; also silver in team competition and horse vault, and bronze in floor exercise and uneven bars

Named Wheaties cereal's first official spokesperson; also appeared on box cover

Inducted into U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame

Made cameo in holiday comedy "Scrooged," starring Bill Murray
