Sold Barry Levinson the right to his book, who turned the story into a serialized cop show "Homicide: Life on the Street" (NBC)

1994

Hired as a writer and later producer on "Homicide: Life on the Street" (NBC)

1997

Co-authored (with Ed Burns) his second work of nonfiction, <i>The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood</i>

2000

Co-wrote (with David Mills) and produced "The Corner," which was adapted from his book into the six-part HBO miniseries

2002

Created, wrote and executive produced the HBO series "The Wire"; again collaborated with Ed Burns on creating the show; earned Emmy (2005, 2008) nominations for Outstanding Writing

2008

Produced and wrote HBO's miniseries "Generation Kill" with Ed Burns; earned Emmy nominations in 2009 for Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Miniseries

Created the HBO series "Treme" about musicians in post-Katrina New Orleans
