In the early stages of her Hollywood career, O'Brien held acting roles in films like the River Phoenix dramatic adaptation "My Own Private Idaho" (1991). She also appeared in the TV special "Mystery Dance" (ABC, 1994-95). She also landed a role in the miniseries "Dead by Sunset" (1995-96). Her work around this time also included a part on the TV movie "Moment of Truth: Why My Daughter?" (NBC, 1992-93). She also was featured in the TV movie "Where the Truth Lies" (Lifetime, 1999-2000).
